Ashley Mendoza- Reflection #2

ELECTIONS MATTER         Honestly, this experience was something I did not expect. Initially, I thought, we would just be practicing speech in-class. Or reading from a text book, then practicing. But performing on the steps to some people outside our own class was quite refreshing and engaging. It does help you gain actual experience, I feel, and It wasn't nerve-wracking for me more like a fun day. Performing a speech like this, and often, would definitely get rid of my jitters because I tend to sound a little nervous when I speak. But I noticed I sounded less nervous which was great!       When we first got our topic, we thought, "oooh... this is gonna be hard." But, not only did we pull through, I feel like for the first time I actually learnt what the Electoral College (EC) even is. Having to really research, again and again, to try to manage an explanation of it really works. I mean, I have to teach it to god ...

Jasmine Rodriguez-Mena - Reflection #2

Elections matter has been a really interesting project. The event on the steps was very nerve racking but it was also fun. It was a new experience and really brought me out of my comfort zone. via GIPHY I’m especially proud of my group (group 3) . They did great, they did a really good job summarizing their speech for the event as well as heir speech in the original presentation.  I’m especially proud of my group (group 3) . They did great, they did a really good job summarizing their speech for the event as well as heir speech in the original presentation. via GIPHY The whole class did a great job showing different perspectives of each topic without being biased and including their personal opinion. Matter of a fact they did a better job than most news channels in informing people. via GIPHY Group 1 was very informed on immigration, their point was clear and understandable. I loved how they included personal experiences and personal interviews. The way they explained eve...

Alberto Vazquez-Reflection 2

When I think about the issues that shape our society today, topics like immigration, gender equality, the electoral process, and education policies stand out. I recently had the chance to learn more about these issues through the work of four different groups, each of which brought a unique perspective. Their insights were not only informative but also got me thinking about my own experiences and values. Here’s what I found intriguing about each group’s presentation and the points that really resonated with me. via GIPHY Group 1: Immigration – A Personal Connection The immigration group’s presentation felt deeply personal for me because of my Cuban background. Listening to their discussion on U.S. immigration policies and their evolution over time was like hearing a piece of my own family’s story. The group highlighted significant policies, like the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, which I didn’t know much about before. It was eye-opening to realize how that policy set the ton...

“Blog #2”             I would like to start by saying that this project was fun, and I feel like everyone in the class showed an amazing improvement compared to the last speech assignment. Starting with group 4, even though two of their members couldn’t make it to the day of the presentation, they did an amazing job of using the tools they had available to still deliver their speech, the videos were a great idea, and they had amazing skills to make it seem like they were there and still having the audience engaged through most of their speeches. Group 4 captain/manager was also amazing, like always with her funny ways of improvising during her introductions and conclusions making the audience engaged. They talked about why it is important to vote regarding USA schooling and education policies,   my personal take shifts a little bit to the republican side on this one due to the fact that nothing is free, if schools of high...

Kaylee Alvarez-Reflection 2

via GIPHY Hello! Welcome to my blog reflection. I am Kaylee, and this is the second part of my reflection. This is my personal opinion and what I had thought about the 4 groups that presented in my class and outside at The Steps about Gender Equality, Immigration Policies, Education Policies, and the Electorate and The Election Process. Firstly, I would like to say I enjoyed the presentations in class and outside of the premises where many different classes joined us to learn about the importance of Gender Equality, Immigration Policies, Education Policies, and the Electorate and The Election Process. There are many things I didn’t know until I did research about my own topic, but many of the groups that presented their own topics said a lot of educational, opinionative and knowledgeable information. For Gender Equality, the presentation talked about how all employments, salary incomes, and the comparison towards women at work came to be. The person who spoke about this topic which ...

I would like to start by thanking our team leader Valentina. She has definitely been a great support for us as a group. She helped us make the pamphlet that was given to other students and teachers at the time of the outdoor presentation.I would also like to talk about the experience we had when we did a live presentation. I must say that I was quite nervous, it was a new emotion and in a way a very good way to overcome my fear of public speaking. via GIPHY      From my group's presentation, I was able to learn through my research about the origin of the electoral college and elections. As I said in my presentation, elections do not have an exact point of origin but the roots of the electoral process can be found mainly in ancient Rome and Greece. Many governments were hereditary rather than elected, as was the case in the Middle Ages, in the feudal system. But in smaller towns, assemblies and town councils were introduced to increase the partic...

Alberto Vazquez-Reflection 1

First off, a huge thank you to our class representatives for their excellent guidance during our recent presentations. Each group brought valuable insights that enriched our collective learning experience, highlighting key aspects of public speaking that are essential for effective communication. via GIPHY Group 1: The Foundations of Public Speaking Public speaking is more than just talking; it is about creating meaningful connections and influencing others. Group 1 emphasized the importance of understanding your audience and engaging them effectively. They explored Aristotle's principles of rhetoric—Logos, Pathos, Ethos, and Mythos—and discussed the Five Arts of Public Speaking: invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. These concepts are timeless and still shape our approach to speaking today. What stood out to me was how public speaking is a vital life skill. It helps us critically analyze topics, build confidence, and adapt to different audiences. Mastering ...
