Alberto Vazquez-Reflection 1

First off, a huge thank you to our class representatives for their excellent guidance during our recent presentations. Each group brought valuable insights that enriched our collective learning experience, highlighting key aspects of public speaking that are essential for effective communication. via GIPHY Group 1: The Foundations of Public Speaking Public speaking is more than just talking; it is about creating meaningful connections and influencing others. Group 1 emphasized the importance of understanding your audience and engaging them effectively. They explored Aristotle's principles of rhetoric—Logos, Pathos, Ethos, and Mythos—and discussed the Five Arts of Public Speaking: invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. These concepts are timeless and still shape our approach to speaking today. What stood out to me was how public speaking is a vital life skill. It helps us critically analyze topics, build confidence, and adapt to different audiences. Mastering ...

Jasmine Rodriguez-Mena - Reflection #1

I was very impressed with all four groups presentation, they did an amazing job presenting, I’m especially proud of my group (group 3) for all their hard work and commitment to this presentation.  via GIPHY Although all four groups did an amazing job for their first presentation there are some areas that need improvement. The majority of the presenters, including myself, relied heavily on reading from script. We need to engage more with our audience and look more confident.  Although all four groups did an amazing job for their first presentation there are some areas that need improvement. The majority of the presenters, including myself, relied heavily on reading from script. We need to engage more with our audience and look more confident.  via GIPHY I particularly enjoyed presentations where the speakers engaged with the audience. For example, one person asked questions to interact with us, which kept our attention. via GIPHY Group one did an excellent job explainin...

Reflection after watching my classmates speeches Me after sitting through hours of presentations... via GIPHY Just jokes! Every group had their pros and cons alike, we're learning after all. So, here, I'll discuss both! Starting with cons (what a negative nancy), and ending with the pros! (Always better to end on a positive note, no?) Group 1 The cons I'll give about this presentation is the monotone, reading-off-a-script vibe going on. Honestly, whenever this happens I completely zone out or pray for it to be over. You have to be interested in what you're talking about, or at least be knowledgable enough that you can sound interested by looking up instead of down. Giving presentations of public speaking means taking the tips for yourself.  Then again, this group did only have chapters 1-5 that don't talk too much about going off-script. Also, we only just now started off the semester so hopefully as time goes by, the skill of engaging with your audience will actua...

Julio Trujillo-Reflection 1

Julio Trujillo-Reflection 1 Group 1 was super useful because they presented on the foundations of public speaking, how to speak and communicate your message effectively to your audience, how to build your confidence when delivering your speech, some tricks for the day before presenting, how listening is key to improve your public speaking, how to demonstrate mutual respect to the audience and how to adapt to them. They all did amazing and it's even more amazing when you consider the fact that they were the first group to present, which mean they had no prior example on how to do it and had to set the bar for the rest of us.   via GIPHY Group 2 taught me mostly on how to find the right source (making sure is public), checking that my source has validation and how to summarize it. Also, on how to provide evidence by avoiding leaving it to interpretations and judgment, the type of testimonies and how to organize your speech (that even though right now it's not that useful becau...

I would first of all like to appreciate the help form our presentation manager Valentina. She was helping us at all times preparing a meeting on zoom so we could all practice our times for the presentation and making sure that we were on top of our parts. via GIPHY         I think my group did pretty well, although I do think we could have improved by speaking more while facing the audience instead of standing on a tablet or a piece of paper. I would like to start by talking about what I learned thanks to the research that group 3 did. For me, in Chapter 9, I learned a lot about the beginning and end of a presentation. How important the first impression is, and how it is basically the way to attract the audience's information from the beginning. How the first impression affects and how the first vices of many things become what we will remember. Also how to use the recessive effect to establish the connection between th...

I thought that the first presentation my group and I made was remarkably interesting, informative, and nice work done. Our assigned chapters were 9, 10, 11, 12, and were about how to deliver your speech, using language effectively, and more. Our group worked very well together and got our points across without missing any important key points of our chapters. We mentioned many different examples like how you have to dress for the occasion during a speech and I mentioned the met gala and it is a formal event, so you have to dress formally and look your best to respect your audience and yourself. I found my group to be the most informative and attentive when it came to the presentation. via GIPHY      All of my favorite groups that were presented were group 1, group 2, group 3, and group 4, (all of them.) They were all fun to listen to and informative delivered speeches. There are some people that presented really well. One of them being Anthon...
