Jasmine Rodriguez-Mena - Reflection #2
Elections matter has been a really interesting project. The event on the steps was very nerve racking but it was also fun. It was a new experience and really brought me out of my comfort zone.
I’m especially proud of my group (group 3) . They did great, they did a really good job summarizing their speech for the event as well as heir speech in the original presentation. The whole class did a great job showing different perspectives of each topic without being biased and including their personal opinion. Matter of a fact they did a better job than most news channels in informing people.
Group 1 was very informed on immigration, their point was clear and understandable. I loved how they included personal experiences and personal interviews. The way they explained everything was honestly amazing. It was very understanding and informative for new voters as well as future voters. They had interviews with their parents and it honestly just had a lot of emotion to it as I can imagines most of the class are immigrants or came from immigrant parents so each person has their own personal experience with the topic. The connection they showed was really empathetic and touching. They did a great job with this project and really showed they put their all into it. They grew a lot from the last presentation and it shows with their work. Group 1 was very informed on immigration, their point was clear and understandable. Group 2 was very passionate about their topic, they really showed the difficulties women face in the world. They compared how a woman is treated versus a man especially in the workplace. Equal pay is a large issue and they highlighted that beautifully. They were very enthusiastic about the topic and I personally believe they did a great job. Even the guys who normally don’t really look into that stuff were very into it and passionate about it. They did a great job as well at the event on the steps, they spoke very clearly and confidently. I loved how they compared the salaries of men and women in sports, especially basketball. They showed how men's Teams make millions more than women’s teams. They showed all sorts of graphs and I can imagine there’s much more stats because this has always been an issue.
Group 3 (my group) did an amazing job as well, I feel like we really grew from las time and did a much better job. Although we didn’t get the topic we liked we still found our topic pretty interesting at the end, it was nice to inform ourselves on the election and electoral process a bit more. We learned a lot from our research, as well as we had a new experience on the steps for the event. Although we were all nervous we found the confidence to get up and speak in front of everyone. It was a great experience overall to feel like an actual public speaker. We put a lot of effort into our presentation and our speech at the steps and we were extremely happy with the results. We had a great time with this project and gained some experience. One of our teammates even used their personal experience with the government in Cuba showing how much we have to appreciate the government and election process we have here. Our vote truly counts unlike other countries. The dedication me and my teammates put into this presentation, we all worked really hard and helped each other with anything that was needed. It’s a blessing to be an American and voting is our responsibility to keep our government strong and our freedom. It was great to tell our peers how important it is and how we shouldn’t take it for granted.
Group 4 did a great job explaining education policies, some of their teammates weren’t able to make it but they came up with the idea to record themselves and put it in the presentation. I think that was a very smart move considering we still got the information and no one had to take over for them. They seemed really informed on their topic and did a great job explaining the education policies and how the government affects them. They showed both sides and how each side can affect our education in the long run and the future generations as well. They also did an equally good job in the event on the steps explaining the main points and emphasizing the importance in the long run. Student loans and Public schools are crucial to society and one bad decision can ruin the whole system. There is already a shortage of teachers and we can't afford more issues or the future generation will suffer and our kids will suffer. They went into depth on the policies put in place in the past and how they affected the school system as well as people with student loans and also explained the current education policies and their effect as well as the ones the government currently wants to put into place.
Overall this project was really fun and important. People need to be informed on voting and the importance it has to democracy. The whole class did a much better job with this project than we did on the last. It truly showed how much we learned from the first experience, it was truly a great opportunity to be part of this project and get the true experience of public speaking. I invited my friend to join us and she also loved it. It even encouraged her to vote and it opened her eyes. It made her see the importance of voting and how extremely important this election was.
Voting is crucial to protect our freedom and without our vote we have no voice. It was a truly great experience to be able to inform our peers and educate them on the importance of voting as it is not only a right but a responsibility. It was also a great opportunity to reeducate ourselves with the election process and the different issues with both parties as Election Day was approaching and we needed to make an informed vote to make our country strong.
